The SAFE Care Feline Spay/Neuter Clinic opened in 2005 to help address the pet overpopulation problem in Wake, Durham, Orange, and Franklin counties. Under the direction of Betsy King, DVM, the clinic has sterilized over 12,700 cats and kittens.
Dr. King brings over 20 years of experience to the clinic; including 12 years performing pediatric spay/neuter surgery. Licensed by the NC Veterinary Medical Board, SAFE Care is also available to the general public who need low cost spay/neuter services for their cats, kittens & small dogs.
Initially open only 1 day a week, the non-profit clinic is now open Monday through Friday. In July 2012, the board approved expanding the clinic with its own building and additional staff. On October 8, 2012, the clinic opened its new doors! Since opening the doors, the clinic has spayed/neutered over 2,000 cats and dogs!
