Sorrentino a.k.a. “‘Tino”

Sorrentino a.k.a. “‘Tino”

My 19-year-old cat had died on 11/25/17, but I still had my 18-year-old cat, Polar. He was aging rapidly without his buddy. I decided maybe if I got him company, it’d help him be less lonely. I was hesitant, as I didn’t want to overwhelm him at his age.

I looked online at bios of cats at shelters around town. I decided to go to the Kitty Shower at SAFE Haven, where I had been dropping off supplies on occasion. I had grown a fondness for them as a cat-saving organization since all of my cats in my life have been strays. After looking around at many cats, I was walking by a cage and found a brown tabby head next to mine. He appeared to have a scowl on his face, but was very friendly, rubbing against the wall of the cage. I chatted with him for a while and was told his name was Sorrentino. Turns out, he was one of the ones I’d looked at online. Out of all the cats, he seemed to me to be the best fit.

I couldn’t adopt him for almost a week as I had to go out of town. I filled out all the paperwork & said that if he was there when I got back, I’d bring him home. I just knew he’d be gone, but lo and behold, he was still there. I absorbed all the info provided me, as well as what I saw/heard when I visited for an introductory session at SAFE Haven. I proceeded step by step through the thorough adoption, took him home & introduced him to Polar gradually.

‘Tino has been one of the funniest cats I’ve ever known. At first, he was very curious, but a bit aloof and shy. Now he has truly come out of his shell as a bit of a klutzy clown. He has also become quite the lap cat. He is a very loving and lovable cat.

Dolly (Formerly Known As Penelope)

Dolly (Formerly Known As Penelope)

My second Safe Haven adoption. Dolly is a torti rag doll. She was in a group of around 25 cats that were used as breeders in Rowan County. It has taken over 3 years to get her used to my house, my kids, visitors and ME. She is healthy – the vet says she is about 4 years old and IS NOT A LAP CAT.

She follows me upstairs at bedtime and follows me downstairs in the morning. She even sleeps with me now. We have bonded!

Curry (on the left) and Murphy getting some springtime sun! Curry was adopted from SAFE Haven in 2018 and recently turned two years old like her sister, Murphy. We have 3 additional cats that are seniors. Unfortunately Curry loves to gobble up all of the poor senior’s food and has gained some weight, but we’re working on that!

Lynda Harris Fine Art

Lynda Harris Kitten ArtLYNDA HARRIS graduated from NC State University with a Master’s in Landscape Architecture and has spent the last 30 years designing urban and commercial spaces, urban parks, and residential hardscapes and gardens. Although she drew with pen and rendered detailed landscape drawings and elevations with markers and pastel pencils, she never translated her talent into painting.

Lynda’s passion for design and gardening has led to painting with a focus on landscapes and ones that many times include architectural elements. Learning how to capture light and mood while not being a slave to photographs is an ongoing creative challenge.

Lynda has studied with nationally known artists Rick McClure, John Poon, Dawn Whitelaw, Albert Handell and David Dunlop. She has also studied with locally based artists Becky Patman, Nicole White Kennedy and Bob Rankin. Her work has been displayed at the gallery of Nicole White Kennedy. Some of Lynda’s most recent works were displayed at the 2018 Cary Lazy Daze Art Fair, Cary, NC where she sold 56 paintings, and at Margaux’s Restaurant in Raleigh where she had a successful 3-month one-person show.

She has a permanent exhibition at 311 Gallery, 311 W Martin St. Raleigh, NC.
